Move Your Website

  • Choosing your new web hosting company.
  • Use the migration capability of your new webhost and follow their directions.
  • Note
    • Make certain that you choose the right host.
    • The host that you were on had multiple cores, multiple gigabytes of memory, and 4x the amount of storage space available.


  • You want to make certain you have a solid working backup on your system.
  • Also, don't forget to test a restore monthly so that you know everything is working in the backup process.

Website Plugins

  • There is a plugin called WP SMTP on your website that defines how outbound email is sent/forwarded to you. You will need to modify this so that your email will be delivered successfully.
  •  Remove the WP Main plugin as this is one of the ways we monitored your website 24x7

Move Your Domain

  • Utilize the Knowledge base article at https://www.fawkesdm.com/Detail/KB/KB00134
  • NOTE: If we are the one controlling your domain you need to create your own GoDaddy account, setup 2-factor authorization, etc. You will then provide us with the email address and your customer number. NO PASSWORDS. Then we will do the transfer and send you screen shot confirmations.

Move Your Email

  • You will need to recreate all of your email addresses and associated aliases.
  • Once these are created you will log into each one and do an email migration.
  • This is handled by your new mail server company.
  • As with your website make certain they are backing this information up for you and see about what the restore process is.
  • In most cases, this is an email asking for a specific mailbox to be restored.

Users & Passwords

  • Once you are near done it is recommended to verify all users that have access and remove access from accounts that are no longer needed.
  • We recommend creating all new passwords. Although we will be erasing everything from our systems it's always good to start out fresh and secure.
