As an entrepreneurial company, we know that we have to know our stuff and be experts in our field. Your competition obviously knows there stuff, as that is why they are your competition. Being “as good” as them is not a distinguishing factor that you want to be known as. You need to strive to be better than they are as if you are the same then there is a good chance one of you will not be growing, as you want. With business there are always distinguishing marks for companies. Key areas that you need to know are:

  • Your product
  • Your market
  • Your positioning
  • Your competition
  • Your message

Knowing the above is the start of your online success. You learn this daily by studying everything that you can. You will be curious about new things, seek knowledge and advice from others in and out of your field of expertise. You will question what you have learned and learn from this information.

You will notice that the key areas to know did not list your website as something you should know. This was not an accidental omission. Your website is very important to the success of your business. You need to make certain it conveys your business, as you want. The key here is you cannot know your website until you know the items above. You then need to decide do I want to take the time to do your website and online marketing yourself or use specialized experts for each aspect of your online endeavor.

You may have a Facebook, or other social media page, and feel you are golden and if you are lucky are already drawing prospects and new clients from that. Many will stop at the social engagement level as they have customers coming in. Your website is much more than just a website. It is your key difference between you and your competition. Ever business can have a Facebook or other social media page. They cannot have your webpage. Your webpage will highlight your product, target the markets that you want, position your business for continual success, outline why your customers should choose you over your competition and provide your message in a way that you want in the format that you want it to be.

You need to consider your website as a part of the team. We always talk about your website as an employee and that will always be true as your website works for you 24x7x365 for you. A well-crafted website will inform of what you offer. Many websites do not generate instant sales. They are more informational and pushing sales onto your prospects and current customers. This does not mean your website is not working for you as part of the “team” as it is not generating instant sales for you. In fact, a website that informs continuously, and honestly, about your business you will find does as much good for your bottom line as a sales person as your website highlights who you are without being pushy. A team is one that works together harmoniously toward the overall success of the organization. Every member of the team is equally important to the success of the business.

In Conclusion

By knowing your business, have clearly defined objectives your business is more likely to be a success. Knowing that your website is a member of your team and treating it as a member of the team, you are distinguishing your business as a clear leader.
